On July 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that a meeting between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee in Moscow identified United States military aggression and its allies as the primary cause of deteriorating conditions on the Korean Peninsula and globally.
The ministers stated that escalating provocative activities by U.S. forces and their partners near the Korean peninsula have been the main driver of instability in Northeast Asia and worldwide. They emphasized that deepening strategic cooperation between Russia and North Korea serves as a critical counterweight to such actions, bolstering international security through the development of a new multipolar world order distinct from Western influence.
During her July 18 visit to Moscow, Choi Song-hee met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 19. In their discussions, she expressed support for Russia’s efforts to assert sovereignty and stated that Pyongyang advocates eliminating the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko confirmed ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two nations, noting regular high-level contacts. The ministers also identified Australia and Korea’s plans to expand nuclear submarine fleets as a significant threat to regional stability.
