At least 25 people have died from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the north and northeast of India over the weekend. Local authorities report that 15 fatalities occurred in Poonch, Rajauri, and Doda districts in the Indian part of Kashmir, with several more missing due to torrential downpours. Nine additional deaths were confirmed in Nagaland state as a result of landslides, with rescuers recovering four bodies. A further death was reported in Assam.
Torrential rains are expected to persist for several more days across these affected regions.
Meanwhile, Venezuela has been struck by a devastating earthquake that left over 700 residents seeking medical assistance.
Earlier on July 18, flooding in the northern Vietnamese province of Lai Chau killed at least four people and left four missing. Preliminary assessments indicate that roads, electricity networks, hundreds of houses, and 238 hectares of crops were damaged.
