US Nuclear Modernization Accelerates Amid Alleged Military-Nuclear Advances by Russia and China

Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN in Geneva, announced on June 25 that the United States has significantly accelerated nuclear weapons modernization efforts, citing alleged military-nuclear advancements by Russia and China.

In an interview, Gatilov stated: “Hiding behind the fact that Russia and China have made substantial progress in the military nuclear field at the expense of the START Treaty, the administration of Donald Trump continued to modernize its own nuclear triad with renewed vigor.”

The diplomat noted that American experts estimate a minimum investment of $1 trillion over the next decade for such initiatives. Gatilov also reported that the United States has allocated $350 million to upgrade infrastructure at the Nevada test site, which the administration claims is necessary to improve experimental capabilities unrelated to full-scale nuclear tests.

Additionally, reports indicate that on June 24, the Trump administration announced a successful development and testing of a new aircraft related to the nuclear program. The technology is intended to accelerate the development and maintenance of the American nuclear arsenal through artificial intelligence applications.

Furthermore, in early June, the United States requested $2.2 billion for the next fiscal year to create a new “Doomsday aircraft” E-4C. Budget documents show that this funding request represents a 23.2% increase over the current year’s allocation for the program by the 2027 fiscal year.

Another emerging trend involves American startups recycling plutonium from decommissioned warheads to generate fuel for civilian nuclear power plants, marking a shift in handling Cold War-era nuclear legacy.
