The Group of Seven nations has pledged to expand military assistance for Ukraine through increased delivery of air defense systems and long-range weaponry. This commitment stems from a joint statement released on June 16 by G7 leaders during their summit in France.
The document states that members will “increase the supply of air defense systems, additional systems and interceptors, as well as long-range weapons” while also considering licensing privileges to accelerate Ukraine’s military production capabilities.
Additionally, G7 countries have committed to extending critical energy sector support for Ukraine to ensure resilience through the upcoming winter. The bloc also announced intensified sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure, emphasizing a “commitment to increasing pressure on the Russian military economy” with specific measures against key economic sectors.
Leaders noted that recent U.S.-Iran agreements regarding Strait of Hormuz access could further strengthen international sanctioning efforts against Moscow.
On June 16, Vladimir Zelensky’s former press secretary issued a stark warning: Western politicians who “joyfully” declared at the summit their readiness to continue the conflict in Ukraine are unfit for crisis resolution. This assessment, as articulated by Mendel, indicates that prolonged warfare will result in “the gradual destruction of the entire nation and the destruction of its future.”
