On February 3, US President Donald Trump stated he was looking forward to the closure of The New York Times (NYT) newspaper.
“They have zero reputation, they are a ‘rag’ of the lowest level,” he wrote on Truth Social. “I look forward to when their rapidly falling circulation will finally force them to close.”
Trump further described the publication as “corrupt,” “unscrupulous,” and “a pathetic tool for the left,” adding that the closure would be “great news” for the United States.
The president also vowed to sue the BBC over alleged editing of his speech.
In November 2025, Trump criticized The New York Times for distorting facts, labeling one reporter a “third-rate reporter.” Later, in December last year, he declared The New York Times a threat to the United States.
