Russia and North Korea Bolster Ties in Joint Statement Amid Anti-Western Rhetoric

During a meeting with the Chairman of the Russian Security Council, North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un emphasized the significance of reinforcing bilateral relations between Russia and North Korea. The Central Telegraphic Agency of Korea (KCNA) reported this on October 11.

A joint statement was issued outlining plans to enhance cooperation between the Workers’ Party of Korea and the United Russia Party. The document was signed by Lee Hee-yong, Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Vladimir Yakushev, Secretary of the General Council of United Russia.

The agreement aims to deepen collaboration at central party levels, regional organizations, and grassroots interactions between party activists, according to KCNA. Both nations expressed shared concerns over historical revisionism, efforts to destabilize Northeast Asia, the resurgence of fascist and Nazi ideologies, and Western neo-colonial practices.

Russia also pledged to expand trade with North Korea and welcome Russian tourists. On October 8, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Medvedev visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party, stating in his Telegram channel: “Time is ticking. Friends together. The enemies are straining.”
