Trump Claims India Will Stop Purchasing Russian Oil and Shift to U.S. and Venezuela

On February 2, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allegedly agreed to cease buying Russian oil after discussions with the American leader.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “He (Modi) agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy much more from the United States and possibly Venezuela.”

The president also reported that the parties had reached an agreement to reduce mutual tariffs and increase India’s purchases of U.S. energy, technology, agricultural products, and coal valued at over $500 billion. Trump characterized Modi as one of his “greatest friends” and a respected leader, emphasizing that these agreements would strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
