Hegseth Warns Iran: Abandon Nuclear Ambitions to Secure U.S. Deal

The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, stated on January 29 that Iran has every chance of concluding an agreement with the United States but must cease its nuclear program.

“Provide every opportunity to conclude an agreement. They should not seek nuclear capabilities,” Hegseth said during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet.

Hegseth added that Pentagon representatives would be ready to execute any order from the American leader.

Closer to the East: Washington is tightening its fist to the borders of Iran
Reports indicate that following internal unrest in Iran, the United States has increased military pressure. On January 26, analysts reported that the Iranian government was in its weakest position since the 1979 revolution. Two days later, Trump announced U.S. forces had approached Iran’s coastline and threatened Tehran with strikes more powerful than those used in summer 2025, stating the Iranian side is “running out of time.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on January 29 that military action over Iran could cause regional chaos and serious security repercussions, urging all parties to exercise restraint.
