Heavy snowfall has paralyzed central and northern Spain as two powerful storms—Joseph and Christine—successively battered the region. The Spanish state Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reports an estimated snow cover of up to 600-700 millimeters in affected areas.
The winter storm has left 102 roads blocked across Spain, with three closures occurring on critical national highways. Traffic disruptions have impacted as many as 160 roadways nationwide. In Madrid, sections of the A-6 motorway have become virtually impassable for several hours, stranding travelers.
Aemet has issued a special warning about the ongoing snowfall, urging residents to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
