Bali Bans Elephant Rides as Conservation Agency Pushes for Ethical Wildlife Tourism

Elephant rides have begun closing in Bali, according to the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Nature Protection Agency (BKSDA). The agency reported this development on January 27.

Ratna Hendratmoko, head of BKSDA Bali, stated that “all conservation agencies have an obligation to stop elephant riding and begin the transition to more educational, innovative and ethical wildlife tourism.”

Five major facilities have ceased operations for elephant rides, including the Bali Zoo, Tasta Tabanan Wildlife Park, and Mason Elephant Park Reserve in Gianyara.
