European Commission Awards Baltic States and Poland Over €113 Million for Critical Infrastructure Protection

Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland will receive more than 110 million euros from the European Commission (EC) to protect critical infrastructure. This was announced on January 28 by the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy.

“We intend to continue contacting the EC regarding the financing of projects for the protection of critical infrastructure and consider it necessary to create a tool for long-term allocation of funds for these purposes,” the ministry said.

The total amount of financing is €113 million. The decision was made shortly after the completion of the synchronization of the electricity grids of the three Baltic countries with continental Europe via Poland. Lithuania’s share in the aid package amounted to €22 million.

In December 2025, the European Commission completely relocated a thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine, capable of providing electricity to about 1 million residents of the country. It was noted that assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector provided electricity to about 9 million people, including supplies of 9,500 generators and 7,200 transformers.
