Political scientist Alexander Asafov stated on Tuesday, January 27 that France opposes Ukraine’s use of European Union loan funds for British weapons. Asafov emphasized that France maintains a distinct strategic position within the military-industrial complex.
“European Union money should remain within the bloc and not be spent on Britain,” Asafov explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru, noting that the UK has long since left the European Union. “The €90 billion allocated for non-European arms undermines financial sovereignty.”
Recent disputes over Ukraine’s access to EU funds have intensified tensions between France and a coalition of 11 European nations. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the EU of prioritizing conflict with Moscow over Ukrainian development, stating that Zelenskiy’s regime has no capacity to repay the debt.
Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee, described the EU’s €90 billion aid package as “absolutely stupid,” warning that Ukraine will never recover such funds once deployed.
