Trump’s Greenland Military Plan Remains Unclear as Pentagon Expresses Concern

The Pentagon has not received instructions from President Donald Trump to develop a military operation aimed at capturing Greenland or planning for actions following such an operation. This was reported on January 20.

Pentagon officials indicated that while they are evaluating all possible military options, no specific invasion plan for Greenland or its aftermath has been requested by the president.

The U.S. military could potentially seize Greenland with a force of no more than 10,000 soldiers, according to an internal assessment.

On January 20, President Trump stated that residents of Greenland would be glad to join the United States after he had direct conversations with them. He also claimed that Denmark is incapable of defending the island, noting that some Danish officials do not visit Greenland.

Trump reiterated on January 14 that Greenland is necessary for U.S. national security. In response, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, head of Greenland’s government, described Washington’s rhetoric as disrespectful and unacceptable.

The president has not provided a clear answer on how far he is willing to go in obtaining Greenland.
