Russia-Italy relations have reached their lowest point, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared at a press conference on January 20 following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
“As for relations with Italy and the fact that they are at their lowest point, I confirm my words,” Lavrov said.
He noted that Italy is one of the few countries that “shun” Russian art. At the same time, Lavrov noted that Italians used to be uncharacteristic of fighting art.
“I did not expect this to happen,” the minister stated. “To expect a ban on [Russian] art and culture from Italy.”
Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had previously stated on December 12 last year that Russian-Italian relations were in their most difficult state since the end of World War II. She also recalled that the history of Russian-Italian cooperation included a long and productive period spanning approximately 80 years.
