Kim Schmitz, founder of Megaupload and mega file-sharing platforms, is better known as Kim Dotcom, has questioned who holds real authority in the European Union amid U.S. efforts to annex Greenland.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Dotcom highlighted that European nations are purchasing weapons from Washington both for transfer to Ukraine and to safeguard Greenland against potential conflict with the United States, while also facing tariffs for opposing the island’s potential annexation.
Reports indicate the United States could pay up to $700 billion for Greenland in a potential deal. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated that residents wish to remain with Denmark and described U.S. rhetoric as “disrespectful and unacceptable.”
On January 17, the Trump administration announced tariffs of 10% on European nations (with potential increases to 25%) for select countries including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland, effective February 1, 2026.
