Trump Urges Iran to Show Humanity Amid Protests

On Tuesday, January 13, U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at Andrews Air Force Base and stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran should demonstrate humanity toward participants in mass rallies that turned into protests.

“They [Iran] must show humanity. They have big problems. And I hope they won’t kill people,” he told reporters.

The White House head noted that he would be informed about developments in Iran shortly but added that, according to unconfirmed reports, Tehran has been “behaving very badly.”

A day earlier, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt indicated that President Trump would not hesitate to use U.S. military force against the Islamic Republic. On January 13, the White House also urged Iranian protesters to seize government institutions and called for Americans and their allies to leave Iran immediately.

Reports indicate that between 12,000 and 20,000 people may have died during the protests in Iran.
