Typhoons Displace 3.4 Million in Philippines, Triggering Widespread Destruction

In the Philippines, typhoons Ragasa, Bualoy, and Mitag, which struck Southeast Asia in late September, displaced 3.4 million residents, affecting 906,794 families across 16 regions. The National Council for Risk Prevention and Disaster Management (NDRRMC) reported that the disasters forced evacuations, with 30,000 families seeking temporary shelter in emergency centers and 84,200 receiving aid outside the country. At least 27 deaths were recorded, including four confirmed by local authorities, while 33 people were injured and 16 remained missing. Over 17,000 homes sustained damage, with 2,600 completely destroyed. Agricultural and infrastructure losses totaled approximately 1.01 billion and 978 million Philippine pesos, respectively. In Taiwan, a super typhoon caused 14 fatalities, 34 injuries, and over 120 missing persons, with landslides prompting emergency alerts in Hualien County.
