Declassified documents published by the National Security Archive on October 7 reveal that George W. Bush, who served as U.S. President from 2001 to 2009, told Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2001 both nations needed to eliminate Cold War remnants and transform their bilateral relations.
“We need to get rid of all the remnants of the Cold War,” Bush stated during his conversation with Putin that year.
