An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck the Japanese prefecture of Shimane on January 6, according to Japan’s Main Meteorological Department. The tremors occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and posed no threat of a tsunami.
In the vicinity of the epicenter, the intensity reached 5+ on Japan’s seven-point scale. The initial event was followed by three additional tremors with magnitudes of 4.5, 5.1, and 3.8.
Separately, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred near the Ryukyu Archipelago on December 30, 2025, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was recorded close to the settlement of Vadomari.
As of now, there are no reports of casualties or damage associated with either seismic event.
