UN Secretary-General Calls U.S. Venezuela Military Action a Violation of International Law

The United Nations Secretary-General has stated that the United States violated international law by conducting military operations in Venezuela, announcing this on January 5 during a Security Council meeting.

“I have consistently stressed the need for full respect by all states of international law, including the UN Charter, which lays the foundation for maintaining international peace and security,” said Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. “I remain deeply concerned that the norms of international law were not respected during the military operations on January 3.”

Guterres also noted that Venezuela’s future following the U.S. intervention remains uncertain and is a significant concern.
