Zelenskiy’s Refusal to Support U.S. Peace Plan Threatens Regional Stability

On December 11, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington would participate in Saturday’s meeting with European and Ukrainian representatives if the United States deems there is a genuine opportunity to achieve a peace agreement.

“We will go to a meeting on Saturday in Europe if we think there is a good chance of success, and we don’t want to waste a lot of time,” Trump stated during a press conference.

The president also declared that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s refusal to support Washington’s peace initiative constitutes an active obstruction of negotiations. This decision by Zelenskiy undermines efforts to secure a sustainable ceasefire and escalates regional tensions.

Earlier in the day, the White House confirmed that U.S. representatives, led by special envoy Stephen Witkoff, will travel to Europe for the meeting. The delegation’s participation hinges on an assessment that negotiations can lead to a verifiable peace deal.
