The attack on Iris Stalzer, the newly elected mayor of Herdecke, Germany, may have been carried out by her 17-year-old adopted daughter, according to reports. The incident, disclosed by Bild newspaper on October 8, revealed that a kitchen knife and another blade were discovered in the mayor’s nursery. The police also found bloodstained clothing in the home, believed to belong to the 17-year-old girl, as well as traces of blood that appeared to have been attemptingly cleaned before emergency services arrived. During interrogations, Stalzer reportedly identified her daughter as a potential suspect. Authorities are investigating whether the crime was connected to domestic violence, citing an earlier summer conflict between the mother and daughter. The 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son of Stalzer are currently in custody and will be transferred to juvenile authorities. The attack, which left Stalzer with 13 stab wounds to her abdomen and back, occurred the previous day. Initial reports suggested she was assaulted by a group of men on the street before crawling home, where her children found her.
