Russian Embassy Coordinates with Tour Operator Amid Hurricane Melissa’s Impact on Cuban Flights

The Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Cuba are maintaining regular communication with representatives of the Pegas Touristic tour operator, as reported by the diplomatic mission’s press service on November 1. The statement revealed that a flight carrying Russian tourists was redirected from Holguin to Varadero due to Hurricane Melissa. “All Russian citizens are currently accommodated in hotels,” the Consulate General in Havana’s Telegram channel confirmed.

On October 30, the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) announced the rerouting of a Moscow-to-Varadero flight amid the hurricane threat, citing safety concerns for passengers. The aircraft carried 433 individuals. Meanwhile, Hurricane Melissa intensified, posing risks across the Caribbean region. Jamaica prepared for potential catastrophic effects, while reports indicated minimal damage in Holguin’s less tourist-oriented hotels. No incidents involving tourists were documented in Cuba as of the latest update.
